鈥淭his business has been in our family since 1942,鈥 says co-owner Stephannie Bulman. 鈥淲e鈥檝e stayed true to our roots as a local, Canadian-owned store, and we鈥檙e proud to continue serving the Lower Mainland sewing community.鈥
by Stephannie鈥檚 husband鈥檚 grandfather, James Castle, the company began as a wartime repair service, fixing and reselling sewing machines. In the 1960s, Castle moved the business to Surrey, operating on the Fraser Highway, in Clayton Heights, until 2023 when SkyTrain expansion prompted a relocation. Today, Castle Sewing calls Castle鈥檚 long-standing philosophy is to support sewing at every level with quality products and a focus on customer service.
Now in its third generation, the business remains a full-time, hands-on operation. 鈥淥ur daughter Emily joined the team about four years ago,鈥 Stephannie says. 鈥淲e鈥檙e here six days a week.鈥 Castle Sewing also runs a full-service centre staffed by four factory-trained technicians, each with over 40 years of experience. Customers who purchase a machine receive complimentary machine orientation instruction and lifetime support.

鈥淲e鈥檙e problem-solvers. It鈥檚 in our DNA,鈥 Stephannie says. 鈥淧eople bring in machines with missing parts and ask, 鈥楥an this be fixed?鈥 We always do our best to say 鈥榶es!鈥欌
Castle Sewing carries a wide range of machines, from beginner models to advanced embroidery and quilting systems by Brother, Pfaff, Janome, Bernina and more. The shop also stocks high-quality cotton fabric, accessories and hosts.
鈥淲e offer everything from beginner classes 鈥 making simple projects like bucket hats or pyjama pants 鈥 to advanced quilting retreats,鈥 Stephannie says. 鈥淲e also bring in educators from major brands to teach fun and informative workshops, so our customers always feel confident using their machines.鈥
