A Surrey bylaw investigation led to a seizure of $80,000 in illegal fireworks, according to a City of Surrey news release.
This is the second large seizure of illegal fireworks in recent weeks.
鈥淚t is believed that this seizure is from the same owner as the $100K seizure in the week leading up to Halloween,鈥 the release states.
In this case, bylaw officers posed as potential buyers and scheduled a time to meet with the seller to purchase fireworks.
When the officers arrived at an abandoned house, the officers could see a large amount of fireworks from the doorway.
The officers informed the sellers they were under investigation for the illegal sale and possession of fireworks.
The fireworks were then seized and two municipal tickets were issued.
鈥淥ur city is safer due to your hard work. I hope these large seizures send a clear message to anyone wanting to illegally sell fireworks in Surrey that this activity won鈥檛 be tolerated in our city,鈥 Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke stated in a news release Monday (Nov. 6).
City bylaws state that fireworks cannot be used in Surrey without a permit from the Surrey fire department and a federal fireworks operator certification To report a concern regarding possible misuse of fireworks, contact Surrey Bylaws at 604-591-4370.
