An Agassiz man facing a child porn charge is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing in Chilliwack next week.
Ivan Styles will appear at Chilliwack Law Courts on Tuesday, May 6, on two 2023 charges: possession of child pornography and breach of release order. At an arraignment hearing, the defendant is formally read their charges and they will state whether they will plead guilty or not guilty.
The initial child porn charge comes from an April 2023 incident. Styles was already on probation after being convicted of three counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of breach of undertaking or recognizance back in October 2021. Styles served a nine-month conditional sentence with four years of probation.
Styles was arrested earlier in the year for allegedly breaching court-ordered conditions. An investigation from the Agassiz RCMP uncovered what they believe to be child pornography on one of Styles' devices, which led to an arrest at Styles' Agassiz home in May 2023.
For weeks prior to Styles' arrest, unidentified people distributed and posted a number of flyers across the community featuring Styles' likeness with the aim of warning the community of his presence in the area. In a statement following the arrest, the local RCMP reminded the public that officers are monitoring "concerning individuals" when they enter the community and will take action when necessary.
Styles appeared in Abbotsford Law Courts in December 2023 following a September incident that led to a charge of breach of release order. He has made several appearances in Chilliwack courts concerning both charges.
