An Edmonton man is back in court facing numerous firearms charges after being stopped at the Aldergrove border crossing with a gun in his vehicle in May 2011.
Christian Bonilla, 41, was in Provincial Court in Surrey on April 2, facing charges of illegally importing an illegal firearm, possession of an unauthorized firearm and prohibited weapon. According to a CBC report at the time, it’s alleged he told border guards that the gun had documentation. But the gun was seized and he was allowed to make the trip back from the United States to Edmonton.
In summer 2011, following the charges at the Aldergrove border, Edmonton Police searched the man’s home and charged him with 72 offences after seizing 75 firearms, silencers and 100,000 rounds of ammunition. The report indicated he lived with his wife and child and there wasn’t any gang ties.
