Another do-over for Aldergrove McDonald鈥檚

Restaurant chain agrees to alter criticized redesign
Council Agenda for Public Hearing
Aldergrove McDonald's has agreed to go back to the drawing board after Township council did not like the look of their renovation designs.

The planned overhaul of the Aldergrove McDonald鈥檚 restaurant will be altered in the wake of criticism by a 91原创 Township councillor who called it 鈥渦gly.鈥

On Monday, Township staff told council the iconic fast food chain has agreed to make some changes to the renovation plans that will, hopefully, be a better fit.

The architect鈥檚 renderings of the proposed new exterior became an issue after the company applied for a development permit to renovate the exterior of its restaurant at 26360 Fraser Hwy.

Stantec Architecture Ltd.鈥檚 application on behalf of McDonald鈥檚 met the industrial designation and development permit guidelines of the Aldergrove Community Plan, but did not please Councillor Kim Richter.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know if it鈥檚 my eyesight, but I think it鈥檚 ugly,鈥 she said when the plan came before council.

鈥淚t may work for McDonald鈥檚, but Aldergrove has to live it,鈥 Richter added.

鈥淚t does seem a little out of place,鈥 Mayor Rick Green agreed.

Planning director Ramin Seifi said the existing guidelines 鈥渁re old and fairly broad-based,鈥 especially in terms of colour and materials for the exterior.
