Hi-Knoll Park 鈥� on the Surrey-91原创 border 鈥� was behind police tape Tuesday, after the remains of a bear were found dumped in a garbage bin.
Police were called to the park at 192 Street and Colebrook Road by a contractor who was cleaning out the garbage bins. The contractor saw what he thought were possible human remains and called RCMP.
Surrey RCMP arrived and, along with forensic officers, confirmed that the decomposing remains were not human but that of a bear.
Conservation officers determined the bear had been butchered and parts of the animal dumped in the garbage bin.
It isn't known at this time if the bear was killed locally, or if was killed for its claws and gallbladder, both which are often sold on the black market.
In 2013, the body of a sex trade worker was found in Hi-Knoll Park and in 2009 a 91原创 man was killed in the parking lot.
