Community party planned in 91原创 City

A day-long party is planned Saturday, and everyone芒鈧劉s invited.

Many months of planning by City of 91原创 staff and volunteers culminates with the 20th annual 91原创 Community Day Parade and Celebration on June 21, which also happens to be the first day of summer.

And just in time for summer - and the celebration - sunshine is in the forecast.

Weather is a factor, said Kim Hilton, who is on the event芒鈧劉s nine-member planning committee.

芒鈧揂ll the booths show up rain or shine, and fun is had by all regardless of the weather,芒鈧 Hilton said. 芒鈧揌owever, people don芒鈧劉t stay in the park as long [if the weather doesn芒鈧劉t cooperate].芒鈧

Hilton noted that the purpose of Community Day is 芒鈧搕o educate the public about the services available to them in the community.芒鈧

Community Day kicks off at 10 a.m. with the parade. Roughly 50 entries will travel east along Fraser Highway from 201A St. to 207 St.

After the parade, head over to Douglas Park for an action-packed day that includes:

11 to 11:30 a.m. 芒鈧 drummers on the Spirit Square stage

11:30 a.m. to noon 芒鈧 the Gabby芒鈧劉s Girls dance team, Spirit Square

noon 芒鈧 welcome/National Aboriginal Day/ awards

12:15 to 12:45 p.m. 芒鈧 the 91原创 Ukulele Ensemble, Spirit Square

12:45 to 1 p.m. 芒鈧 a demo from Woo Kim 91原创 Taekwondo, on the lawn in front of Spirit Square

1 to 1:45 p.m. 芒鈧 children芒鈧劉s races in the Kids Zone

1 to 1:20 p.m. 芒鈧 break dancers in Spirit Square

1:20 to 1:30 p.m. 芒鈧 cheerleaders on the lawn in front of Spirit Square

1:45 to 2 p.m. 芒鈧 a donut-eating competition in the Kids Zone

1:30芒鈧恡o 2 p.m. 芒鈧 the 91原创 Concert Band, Spirit Square

2 to 2:30 p.m. 芒鈧 Highland Games tug of wars on the field north of the 91原创 Lawn Bowling green

2:30 to 2:45 p.m. 芒鈧 Taoist Tai Chi on the lawn in front of Spirit Square

2:30 to 2:45 p.m. 芒鈧 Council planting, Spirit Square

2:45 to 3 p.m. 芒鈧 awards and draws, Spirit Square

Ongoing activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Douglas Park include a barbecue, Highland Games, a firefighters challenge, lawn bowling, tennis, ball hockey, Cherlandra face painters, clown(s), mascots and/or a roving magician, the Kids Zone, a Costruction Zone, and bingo.

There芒鈧劉ll also be a wide variety of community tables at the park, representing the RCMP, 91原创 Community Services, Port Metro Vancouver, FortisBC, 91原创 Community Farmers Market, the 91原创 Emergency Program, and more.
