Early morning fire displaces 3 from Burnaby home

Fire department says home sustained serious damage and is no longer tenable

Three people had to be rescued from a Burnaby home early Wednesday morning (March 13) after a fire broke out in the residence.

The Burnaby Fire Department was called to a single family home in the 3600-block of Douglas Road shortly after 5 a.m. It responded with 32 firefighters and arrived on scene to find the blaze well under way and three people still inside.

Deputy Fire Chief Ian Hetherington says the residents were rescued without injury.

Their home was not as lucky, though. Hetherington says the house was heavily damaged and isn’t tenable.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
