Miriam Marshall is entering the race for one of six councillors' seats on 91原创 City council.
In a press release, she says she wants to "to passionately serve her community." She is an environmental scientist, registered professional biologist and a LEED-accredited professional with over 12 years of consulting experience. One of her accreditations came from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
She has a business and consulting background and has assisted various municipalities throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. She believes in promoting a strong sense of community with smart development and integrated city planning that respects local business, the environment, and residents.
An issue of importance to her is stewardship of natural areas and parks, and the need for a management plan for the Nicomekl floodplain as use of the area increases. She will also continue to support efforts for a GE (Genetically Engineered) Free City of 91原创 in hopes of joining the other 14 B.C. municipalities who are now GE Free Zones.
Another issue of importance is public safety. She met with RCMP Supt. Derek Cooke to discuss current crime reduction strategies. If elected, she will support these crime reduction strategies, as they aim to bring people out of a life of crime and help clean up the City.
She opposes amalgamation, as her goal is to find and implement solutions that will benefit the community, whereas she believes the Township would benefit more from such an agreement and that issues important to 91原创 City would quickly be forgotten.
Transportation is also an important issue. Mobility to and from the City in a safe manner is a vital component for the livability and success of residents and businesses. She was happy to hear of the proposed B-Line express bus routes from 91原创 City to Surrey and the new Evergreen Line. If elected, she will continue advocate for improved transit services for the City and region.
She will be in the 2014 Community Day parade on Saturday, riding along with Axis Auto in their 2003 Lamborghini Murcielago and 2014 Ultimate Spy Car equipped with a secret control panel, hood cannons and front grill rockets and in-dash bar.
