Lorna Wilson often told her close friends, 鈥淚 am just killing time until I die.鈥
She had had too much stuff in her head. Overwhelmed by sadness and shame from years of abuse, she sunk into depression and tried to block out the misery by turning to alcohol.
The hard stuff, wine, beer, cocktails, it didn鈥檛 matter what was in her glass because that is how she could block out the memories.
The only thing was, there wasn鈥檛 much to make her happy. She used alcohol and food to mask the pain of that abuse, which started in childhood. When her father died, she felt that 鈥渢here was no chance for a better past鈥 because he could no longer apologize or make up for what he did 鈥攖he name calling, beatings and sexual violation.
In alcohol, she found somewhere to hide.
鈥淚 was developing addictive behaviour. I stuffed everything down. Drinking alcohol started slowly until I got to the point where it was affecting my life.
鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 get out of bed. I loved my job, but I didn鈥檛 do anything else. I had no oomph. I was at the lowest of lows. I faked happiness.鈥
She was able to reverse her downward spiral into hopelessness, thoughts of suicide, excessive drinking and depression far faster than she could ever have imagined possible.
She found healing in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), turning to one of B.C.鈥檚 foremost experts, Sheryl Stanton, and in the very first session, Stanton 鈥済ot to the place in me where she found what was causing me to drink.鈥
Wilson had tried psychological counseling to find inner peace 鈥渂ut it didn鈥檛 happen.鈥
The guilt, depression, sadness, low self-image, shame, limiting beliefs, and a host of fears, imprisoned her.
Things changed after one of her sisters, who had endured the same abuse, recommended Emotional Freedom Technique. After only one session, the change in Wilson was remarkable. It was as though a heavy shroud of depressing fog had lifted. The urge to drink ceased.
鈥淚 don鈥檛 want to drink,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 haven鈥檛 even thought about it.鈥
After only one session with Stanton, Wilson said, 鈥淚 felt things were brighter around me. The air was clearer. The next morning it was like this bubble of happiness started in me. It has been more than two months since my first session, and everything is so much clearer.鈥
She adds: 鈥淚 wake up in the morning happy. There isn鈥檛 this cloud hanging over me.鈥
Thanks to Stanton鈥檚 EFT, Wilson is turning her life around.
What EFT does, she explained, 鈥渋s show you how to dig yourself out of your hole of misery and despair.鈥
Her husband, Bill, is thrilled.
鈥淚 like the way that Lorna is much more mellow,鈥 he said.
鈥淲hen we need to talk, she doesn鈥檛 clam up. Whatever we have to talk about she faces, and she鈥檚 not putting herself down any more.鈥
The value of Stanton鈥檚 seminar on Wednesday, May 18 cannot be overerstated, Lorna Wilson said.
鈥淚 would say without a doubt that their (participants鈥) world will start changing 鈥 and it will be a happier world,鈥 she added.
鈥淕o to that session and find out what Sheryl can do for you, and what you can do for yourself.鈥
The seminar runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Renaissance Retirement Resort, 6676 - 203 St.
The cost is $20 for those who pre-register online or $30 at the door.
Stanton is holding a two-day event called Bliss and Balance for Life. It is on Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
It is also at the Renaissance Retirement Resort.

Combining ancient Chinese medicine with modern psychology, Emotional Freedom Technique gives amazingly fast and long-lasting results. In much the same was as acupuncture focuses on the body鈥檚 points of energy, EFT uses tapping to manipulate these same points.
Sheryl Stanton, a registered nurse, author, speaker and trainer, used EFT to break the negative blocks that held her back all her life.
In her May 18 seminar at the Renaissance Retirement Resort, Stanton will reveal the three most common mistakes that even the smartest people people make that keeps them severely stressed, unhappy and unhealthy.
She will help participants understand the true cause of their stress, fear, and anxiety, and show how EFT can eradicate them.
Stanton said that many people blame others for their stress. And yet, she says, 鈥淭he truth is that most of us are completely blind to the true cause of our problems.鈥
Consciously, we don鈥檛 know why we do the things we do. 鈥淥r conversely, we don鈥檛 know why we don鈥檛 do the things that we want to do. As a result, we keep getting results that we don鈥檛 want to have. That knowledge is buried in our subconscious or below conscious mind. And it is our subconscious mind, with its negative emotional conditioning, that controls us.鈥
Until that is eliminated, 鈥渘othing is going to change in that area of your life.鈥
Stanton herself has eight years of research and five working as a stress relief specialist, and calls EFT 鈥渢he most powerful tool I have found for eliminating negative emotional conditioning.鈥
