Volunteers at the 91原创 Christmas Bureau say their hearts are full, thanks to the generosity of this community.
鈥淲e have people, churches and organizations clambering to sponsor families,鈥� said Jim McGregor, Christmas Bureau co-cordinator.
Some organizations and churches have asked to sponsor five or six families. Many companies, sports teams and schools are in full swing, doing toy drives.
It鈥檚 a good thing, too, because he predicts that they will help as many or more families in need this year as they did last year.
鈥淲e have well over 550 parents registered with us already so we are on track,鈥� he said. Last year, more than 1,800 children received a Christmas.
The Gifts for Kids Tree is up at Willowbrook Shopping Centre, beside Purdy鈥檚 Chocolates.
People out shopping can bring an unwrapped toy to put under the tree. They get to hang a tag on the tree specifying the gender and age of a child they helped.
The bureau said teenagers are often overlooked.
Teens always like hoodies, other clothing, toiletries and gift cards, McGregor suggested.
Toy Days are scheduled for Dec. 16 to 18, when parents come to the bureau, at 20560 Fraser Hwy., and pick out toys and a book for each of their children. The Bureau can be reached at 604-530-3001.
