A six-year-old 91原创 girl who spent 85 weeks battling brain cancer will be treated to a three-minute shopping spree at Toys 鈥楻鈥 Us at Willowbrook Shopping Centre this September.

On Monday, Sept. 25 at 7 a.m., Talia and her family will have the chance to race through the store, filling their shopping carts with as many free toys as they are able within the three-minute time frame.

After being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour at the age of four, it鈥檚 safe to say that Talia鈥檚 early life has had some challenges.

Throughout her ongoing chemotherapy treatment, which lasted more than 85 weeks, Talia kept her spirits up by dancing, singing karaoke and swimming.

Still, from countless hospital stays to times of complete isolation during her treatment and surgery, Talia has missed out on many opportunities to enjoy just being a kid.

The 3-Minute Dash through the Toys鈥淩鈥漊s store at 19705 Fraser Highway will provide Talia with a chance to create positive memories away from the hospital

The 3-Minute Dash program 鈥 now in its fourth year鈥 is donated by Toys鈥淩鈥漊s as part of their long standing partnership with Starlight and will take place in eight cities across the nation this fall: Ottawa, Montreal, St. John鈥檚, 91原创, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Winnipeg.

Each dash recipient was randomly selected as part of a contest Starlight held earlier this summer, in which families were asked to share the details of their child鈥檚 care journey and submit them to their local Starlight programs co-ordinator for entry.

鈥淎t Starlight, we see first-hand the daily struggles and challenges Canadian families face when caring for their seriously ill child,鈥 said Starlight Executive Director, Brian Bringolf.

鈥淧rograms like the 3-Minute Dash are at the heart of our organization, providing us with the unique chance to bring welcome distraction and a genuine smile to the faces of deserving children like Talia.鈥

A Barbie fan through and through, Talia loves anything pink or purple, and can often be found listening to her favourite musical artists Meghan Trainor and Bruno Mars.

Through in-store and online campaigns, 3-Minute Dashes, their Starlight Gala event sponsorship, and donations to in-hospital, neonatal care and out-of-hospital programs, they have donated $17 million to Starlight.

鈥淗ope and laughter, entertainment and distraction, comfort and support are an integral part of the circle of care and make a real difference to the quality of a seriously ill child鈥檚 life.

鈥淲e hope our event brings Talia and her family much fun and excitement as our team members proudly welcome them to our 91原创 Dash,鈥 said Mary Hewton, VP Human Resources and Customer Relations for Toys鈥淩鈥漊s, Canada.
