A 23-year-old 91原创 man wants to raise $30,000 for clean water by cycling around the world.

Jason Manning, a lifeguard and swimming instructor with the Township of 91原创, left for Japan on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

He expects to spend about a year cycling 30,000 kilometres through Asia, Europe and Canada to raise money for the nonprofit Water For People, an international group that campaigns for clean water in poor countries.

鈥淚鈥檓 doing this because I鈥檝e always loved traveling and cycling, and I want to raise money and awareness for a cause that鈥檚 close to my heart,鈥 Manning said in a letter to 91原创 Township council.

鈥淢y goal is to raise one dollar for every kilometre I pedal.鈥

Water For People estimates 783 million people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion are without adequate sanitation facilities.
