For parents of children aged six to 14 who struggle with acquiring reading, comprehension, spelling and writing or basic math skills, finding affordable summer tutoring is a challenge.
The Learning Disabilities Association – Fraser South Chapter (LDAFS) offers one-to-one tutoring in 91Ô´´ at the 91Ô´´ School District Administration Office located at 4875 222 St.
Children are instructed by a specially trained tutor who works under the direction and mentorship of an experienced, certified teacher using strategies developed to help the child with learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or any child who is behind in reading, writing or math.
However, a child does not need to have a diagnosed learning disability to attend the tutoring program.
LDAFS programs are designed to help children by providing early intervention at an affordable rate. In addition, some partial subsidies are available for families in financial need courtesy of the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.
Tutoring is available from July 2 to Aug. 23 and students attend for daily one hour to 90-minute sessions, Monday to Friday, in two-week long programs. Session dates are July 2 to 12, July 15 to 26, July 29 to Aug. 9 and Aug. 13 to 23. Students can sign up for one or more session dates.
Please register early for the best availability of times.
LDAFS will also be offering a summer program that helps students with learning disabilities or ADD prepare for the challenges of secondary school.
The program runs Aug. 26 to 30 at the LDAFS Resource Centre in Surrey. More info is available at www.ldafs.org or call Tania at 604-591-5156.
