Robert McFarlane is seeking a second term as one of the City of 91原创鈥檚 two board of education trustees.

鈥淚n my first term I was pleased to see a significant increase in both the number of 91原创 students graduating and the number moving onto post-secondary education.  The success of our students must be behind every action the school district takes,鈥� he said

鈥淭he longstanding lack of adequate financial monitoring, reporting, and controls resulted in the current debt was revealed early in the term. While I am pleased those issues are finally being addressed, I am disturbed by the continued lack of sound long-term planning.

"Long-term planning must connect improving student success with actions and the resources to fund those actions. That connection is the difference between a plan and a dream. 91原创 Board of Education needs a commitment to sound long-term planning.鈥�

McFarlane is a member of the City鈥檚 Advisory Planning Commission;  a member of the City鈥檚 Parks, Environment Advisory Committee; chair of the Vancouver Kiwanis Club鈥檚 (low cost) seniors housing committee; and governance chair and B.C. board member of the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

McFarlane is endorsing new board of ediucation candidates Candy Ashdown (in the City) and Megan Dykeman (in the Township).

"The experience of each, as business owners and executive members of the District Parent Advisory Council, will help drive positive change in the school district and bring a greater commitment to long-term planning,鈥� he said.

He and his wife have lived in 91原创 for the past 23 years.  Their two children, former 91原创 students, are now attending a local university.

Nominating and endorsing him again are City Mayor Peter Fassbender and former mayor, and former board of education chair, Marlene Grinnell.
