What started as a one day 鈥淢ercy Ride鈥� for the homeless in 91原创 several years ago has expanded into a three-day event. The latest, held last weekend, raised around $10,000 for the Gateway of Hope homeless shelter in 91原创 City.
Now called the Ride Into History, the weekend event celebrates motorcycling and the history of B.C. at the Fort 91原创 National Historic Site, with a concert, barbecue, show and shine and ride, said Gateway of Hope director Troy Gaglardi, 鈥渁 die-hard鈥� rider.
Around 350 people turned out for the Friday night concert which featured a Johnny Cash tribute band and Steve Elliot as Elvis.
The Fort 91原创 Lions provided a pancake breakfast before 80 riders, including motorcycle enthusiasts City mayor Peter Fassbender and Township councillor Steve Ferguson, hit the road for a scenic three-hour ride.
The motorcyclists returned to the Fort for a show and shine. Saturday evening the Kwantlen First Nations served barbecued salmon.
