A serious single-vehicle crash in Surrey early Sunday morning (May 18) sent multiple people to hospital.
Emergency responders were called to the area of Highway 17 (176 Street), near 103 Avenue at about 2:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Tige Pollock, media relations officer for Surrey Police Service.
The car left the roadway onto a hillside, landing on its side, according to a Black Press freelancer at the scene. Surrey fire crews used the Jaws of Life to extricate people from the vehicle, and at least four people were taken to hospital.
Pollock confirmed that members of the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU), BCEHS and Surrey Fire Service attended the location.
"The vehicle was in a ditch off the roadway with two parties inside and BCEHS and Surrey Fire Service removed them from the vehicle," Pollock reported.
The four occupants of the vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and the collision is still under investigation, Pollock said.
