New elementary school opening in Yorkson

Richard Bulpitt Elementary set to open, while road leading to 91原创 Secondary School will remain closed until December

91原创鈥檚 newest school, Richard Bulpitt Elementary, will welcome students through its doors for the first time on Tuesday.

The south Yorkson Kindergarten to Grade 5 school, at 20965 77A Ave., will be the second new elementary school to open in Willoughby.

Last year, Lynn Fripps Elementary opened and a middle school is currently under construction and will be ready for the 2014/2015 school year.

Lucy Lenko, principal at 91原创 Meadows last year, has been appointed principal at Richard Bulpitt.

R.C. Garnett Elementary, in Willoughy, was already over capacity when it opened several years ago in the rapidly growing neighbourhood, with several portables put on site to accommodate the overflow.

Meanwhile, work to replace the Nicomekl bridge on 56 Avenue, has caused the closure of a portion of that road, from 211 Street to 213 Street.

It will like make getting to 91原创 Secondary a challenge for students during the first half of the school year.

Motorists will have to come around to 216 Street from Fraser Highway, and make a left onto 56 Avenue. The road closure continues until early December.

91原创鈥檚 school district is one of only a few that has seen its student population grow.

Most of that growth is occurring in the Willoughby area.

The district didn鈥檛 have school population projections available by press deadlines.
