The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has identified Pardip Brar, 23, as the victim of Friday night鈥檚 deadly shooting in Surrey.
Brar, a Delta resident, was known to police, and 鈥渋nvestigators believe his murder was targeted and linked to other gang violence in the Lower Mainland,鈥 according to an IHIT news release issued at 2:29 p.m., Saturday.
Surrey RCMP received reports of shots fired in the 6700-block of 137A Street at approximately 7 p.m., Friday.
When officers arrived, they found a man on the street with gunshot wounds. Brar was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
鈥淚HIT is working closely with its partners from Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroner鈥檚 Service to gather evidence,鈥 the release states.
Police are requesting to speak with anyone who has information about a white sport utility vehicle and a black sedan that were seen leaving the area after the shooting.
鈥淚 urge those with information about Mr. Brar鈥檚 murder to come forward and speak with IHIT,鈥 IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang said in the release.

There was a shooting in the same area in mid-February.
This is the eighth shooting in Surrey this year. There were 59 shootings in Surrey during 2017, in 2016 there were 61 and in 2015 there were 88.
