A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 1 near Popkum Road late Tuesday evening.
The Agassiz RCMP responded to the incident at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 29. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) attended to assist the investigation of the scene. The driver remained and is cooperating with RCMP investigators. It is not suspected that the driver was impaired.
"We are diligently working to establish the circumstances that led to this tragic incident, which claimed a life," said Agassiz RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Andy Lot. "We urge anyone with dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision to contact the Agassiz RCMP. We also remind pedestrians of the importance of using designated crossings and wearing bright or reflective clothing when walking near roadways at night to enhance their visibility and safety.鈥

Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted while the investigation was underway and flows normally as of publication.
