Police recently recovered $500,000 in stolen property from two properties in Abbotsford and Mission.
Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department, said the investigation began after police noticed a 67 per cent increase in property crime on Sumas Prairie between Jan. 1 and May 1, compared to the same period in 2024.
Walker said investigators identified several prolific property offenders who they believed were involved in the surge in criminal activity.
He said search warrants were then executed at a property in the 39900 block of Campbell Road in Abbotsford on May 20 and in the 8700 block of Miles Road in Mission on May 23.
Walker said among the items seized were: three vehicles, five ATVs/UTVs, two motorcycles, a travel trailer, a tractor and a skid steer. He said the estimated total value of the stolen property is $500,000.
Walker said the investigation – led by the APD's crime reduction unit – is continuing. No charges have yet been laid.
Assisting in the execution of the search warrants was the drug enforcement unit, the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team and the LMD Police Dog Services.
Walker said police are continuing to deploy both "overt and covert strategies" in Sumas Prairie.
"AbbyPD encourages residents in the Sumas Prairie area to continue reporting any suspicious activity to police," he said.
Walker said the public can follow crime trends in their neighbourhoods online at abbypd.ca/crime-mapping.
