A 17-year-old from 91原创 died when a car went off the road on Avenue Sunday morning.

91原创 RCMP said around 4:30 a.m., a southbound 2008 Mercedes with four occupants 鈥渢raveling at an extremely high rate of speed鈥 on 208 Street went airborne off the west side of the road.

The Mercedes hit the retaining wall in a culvert.

The 17-year-old, the driver, was not wearing his seatbelt, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passengers, who ranged in age from 15 to 20 years old, 鈥渆xited the vehicle with very minor injuries鈥 the RCMP statement said.

Alcohol was believed to be a factor in the collision.

Police closed 208 Street at Yeomans Crescent to traffic until the vehicle could be removed by tow truck.

鈥淲e can only encourage parents to sit down with their young drivers and discuss the deadly consequences of speeding, alcohol and their relative inexperience as a driver,鈥 said RCMP Media Relations officer Cpl. Holly Largy.
