A 91原创 teen was handed two years probation and a $1 fine in connection to a drunken rampage which included his failed attempts to assault several bus drivers and stab people at the 91原创 City bus loop on May 3.
Lance Flegel, 18, pleaded guilty to assault and assault with a weapon in connection with the events of that day, and was given the unusual $1 fine in Surrey Provincial Court on Wednesday (Oct. 8.) Three weapons charges against him were stayed.
Since his arrest Flegal, who goes by 鈥淟ance Reaper Flegel鈥 on his Facebook page, has managed to rack up some new charges. He was also in court to fix a date for charges of assault, mischief and two breaches of his condition for an incident in 91原创 on Aug. 9.
He is also accused of escaping from lawful custody on Sept. 18. He was caught by police and held in jail, but then released on $500 bail on Sept. 24.
In the May 3 incident, police say the 18-year-old was a passenger on a shuttle bus destined for the 91原创 bus loop from Willowbrook Shopping Centre.
He appeared to be intoxicated when he boarded the bus around 4 p.m. and passed out en route to the bus loop, said police at the time.
The bus driver anticipated she would likely have an issue with the sleeping teen so she was met by another bus driver when they arrived at the bus loop.
Both drivers approached the drunken teen and asked him to leave the bus. He started swinging his fists at both of them, said 91原创 RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Holly Marks at the time.
鈥淔ortunately, both were able to avoid getting hit,鈥 said Marks.
It鈥檚 alleged that the suspect then exited the bus where a number of transit users had gathered.
Police allege he produced a knife and attempted to stab one of the bus patrons.
Once again, he did not injure his target.
鈥淎 random vehicle arrived at the loop and two males exited. One of the men kicked the knife out of his hand,鈥 said Marks. The other man retrieved the knife and both got into their vehicle and drove off, said Marks.
Now, apparently unarmed, the suspect tried to board another shuttle bus.
鈥淲hen the driver refused him service, he took another swing 鈥 thankfully, another unlanded punch,鈥 she said.
Police arrived and Flegel was arrested.
He had been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in that incident.
