Some Cloverdale rugby players helped prepare a 91原创 Township park for the gardening season.
On March 11, 40 boys and four staff from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School in Cloverdale built new community garden plots next to the 91原创 Demonstration Garden at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum.
The students, members of the school鈥檚 rugby team, assembled 16 wood planter boxes and cleaned up the park and trails.
The Township of 91原创 supplied the tools and coordinated the work.
鈥淭hey got a lot of work done and we are truly grateful for their efforts鈥 said 91原创 Township Parks Design and Development Manager Al Neufeld. Located next to the 91原创 Airport between Fraser Highway and 56 Avenue, the Arboretum was established by the Township of 91原创 in the fall of 2008.
The 12 acres include woods, wetlands, pathways, viewing decks, and the Walk to Remember commemorative grove.
The demonstration garden, which is run by 91原创 Environmental Partners Society, will officially open this spring.
There are plans to create a sustainable horticulture centre in the future.
Interested gardeners who would like to rent the newly-constructed planting beds and form a Derek Doubleday Community Garden Club for the 2013 season should contact Michelle Barkes in Parks Design and Development at 604-532-7350 or email: mbarkes@tol.ca.
