Surrey police appeal for witnesses to fatal Canada Day collision

Videos of collision that ultimately claimed the life of one driver have reportedly been shared on social media

Surrey Police Service is appealing to witnesses to a fatal traffic collision that occurred on July 1, 2025.

On that date, at around 4:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of 120 Street and 97 Avenue for reports of a collision. Three people were transported to hospital as a result of the two-vehicle incident – one with life-threatening injuries – and 120 Street was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated.

One of the drivers subsequently died from their injuries, an Aug. 1 news release states.

An appeal for witnesses was previously issued on July 4. The latest appeal follows police becoming aware of social-media posts that show videos of the collision posted by potential witnesses, the release continues.

"SPS is appealing those witnesses to come forward and speak with investigators."

Anyone with information, including dash cam or CCTV footage, is asked to call Surrey Police Service’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502 and quote file 25-54337 (SP). To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at www.solvecrime.ca or 1-800-222-8477.
