Police raided a suspected drug lab on 72 Avenue near 208 Street Thursday morning (April 24).

A 36-year-old Surrey resident has been arrested in connection with a police investigation into a possible clandestine drug lab on 72 Avenue in 91原创.

Police raided a 91原创 house on 72 Avenue near 208 Street Thursday morning.

Traffic through the area was shut down for several hours to allow a hazardous materials handling team time to clean up the chemicals in the older one-storey detached house.

The suspect has since been released, pending the approval of drug-related charges.

This site had been the subject of an investigation for several weeks and once a target was identified and judicial authorizations were obtained, investigators moved in swiftly, said Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr.

鈥淎lthough several officers are still at the scene gathering evidence, we can already say that this is a large scale operation," he said.

鈥淲ith public safety being our priority, 72 Avenue was actually closed for a short time yesterday, but was immediately re-opened once we could confirm that our communities and nearby residents were not at risk.鈥

The Surrey RCMP Drug Section is being assisted by several different law enforcement partners in this investigation including 鈥淓鈥 Division Clandestine Lab Unit and Forensic Identification Section as well as an Asset Forfeiture Team.
