Firefighters rescued a Willoughby family from the roof of their house early Monday morning.
Just before 3 a.m. Monday morning, Township of 91原创 firefighters received calls of a house fire in the 20100-block of 71A Ave in the Willoughby neighbourhood.
The house was located just a block away from Fire Hall 4.
Upon pulling out of the fire hall, crews could see heavy smoke and flames and requested a second alarm.
They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a house.
The occupants, a family of four, had escaped the second floor and were stuck on the roof of the house.
91原创 Township assistant fire chief Andy Hewitson said the first firefighters on the scene used ground ladders to bring them down safely.
All were uninjured, but received oxygen at the scene and were transported to 91原创 Memorial Hospital for examination.
鈥淭hanks to the quick actions of neighbours who reported the blaze and the immediate response from the crews stationed at the Willoughby Hall 4 there were no serious injuries,鈥 Hewitson said.
鈥淐rews performed the rescue and were immediately followed by an aggressive interior fire attack to quickly knock down the main body of fire.鈥
About 25 firefighters and fire trucks from Willoughby, Murrayville and Walnut Grove fire stations were called in.
Cause of the fire, near the rear patio, is under investigation.
