VIDEO: Masked animal rights protesters stage vigil

鈥淐ube of Truth鈥 protest by the local chapter of 鈥淎nonymous for the Voiceless鈥

A small group of masked protesters staged an afternoon sidewalk vigil in Fort 91原创 Saturday afternoon, donning Guy Fawkes masks and standing in a circle holding boxes with laptop computers that played images of animals being mistreated.

The 鈥淐ube of Truth鈥 protest by the local chapter of 鈥淎nonymous for the Voiceless鈥 was part of an international day of activism, organizer Kirsten Reyes explained.

鈥淭he hope is that people will gain awareness with animals and how we use them for our gain when there鈥檚 absolutely no need to,鈥 Reyes said.

Reyes said demonstrations were also planned for other B.C. communities including Surrey, Vancouver, Kelowna and Nanaimo.

The 鈥溾 website describes the group as 鈥渁n animal rights organization that specializes in street activism.鈥

It uses what it calls 鈥渓ocal standard-practice footage鈥 to argue for a switch to a vegan lifestyle.

鈥淲e hold an abolitionist stance on animal exploitation.鈥

Since it was founded in 2016, Anonymous for the Voiceless says it has held over 8,493 demonstrations in 806 cities.

鈥淲e鈥檝e convinced at least 308,771 bystanders to take veganism seriously,鈥 the site claims.
