Weather causing work crews to fall behind on bridge work

If you鈥檙e beginning to wonder about what鈥檚 going on with the new Fraser Highway Nicomekl River crossing 鈥 or, more specifically, what鈥檚 not going on 鈥 you鈥檙e not alone.

A number of people have contacted the City of 91原创 to ask about the recent lack of activity on the bridge building project, City engineer Gary Vlieg told council during Monday night鈥檚 televised meeting.

鈥淎 lot of the work that is supposed to be happening is weather contingent,鈥 he explained.

Once the weather improves, crews will resume paving work and will raise the last few signal poles, he said.

鈥淲e expect a flurry of activity,鈥 Vlieg said.

Because of the cold, wet spring, crews are running up against a tight deadline, with a grand opening celebration planned for Saturday, May 28.

The public is invited to meet at St. Andrew鈥檚 United Church, next to the new bridge, beginning at 10 a.m. that day for the official opening of the bridge.

Drivers are advised that Fraser Highway will be completely closed for a two-hour period that morning, as part of the celebration, said Vlieg.
