White Rock grads continue to celebrate, 70 years later

Semiahmoo High's Class of '55 'a close-knit group'

It's been a more than a minute since Larry Fournier and his Semiahmoo High School classmates set out to take on the world as young graduates.

But for decades, the senior and a handful of his peers – including the younger sister of – have kept up a tradition of keeping in touch.

The class of 1955 has got together "four or five" times over the past 30 years, Mary Fran McArthur told Peace Arch News. Most recently, they held their 70-year reunion.

Around 50-strong back in the day, the numbers have dwindled since graduation, with "about 12 people left from that group," said McArthur.

Fournier noted a group photo from the April 2025 gathering included 10 grads from the class of 1955, one from the class of '54 and one from the class of '53.

The classmates were "a very close-knit group" who went through six years of junior and senior high together, Fournier recalled.

While Fournier said he left White Rock in 1957, "quite a few 1955 grads stayed on in White Rock their entire lives, and still live there."

They held their first reunion in 1980, "with a large turnout of grads and teachers."

"Over the years we have had many more get-togethers including a memorable 50th held at the Semiahmoo Rod and Gun Club in 2005," Fournier continued.

"Now, our ranks are greatly diminished, but we do get together at least once a year."
