HARING, Josef Rudolf
Josef Haring passed away at the age of 74 on February 1st, 2011, surrounded by family. Josef was born on June 21st, 1936 in Karlsbad, Czechslovakia, the eldest son of eight children. He began his long career at the age of 14 when he apprenticed to become a baker. In 1956 at the age of 20, Josef left Germany to begin a new life in Canada. He worked in a number of different places throughout BC and Alberta, including Ocean Falls and Chateau Lake Louise, before settling in
Vancouver. In 1973, Josef married Maureen (nee Box). The family moved to Surrey in 1975 where they raised two children, Michelle & Trevor. Josef worked extremely hard, 6 days a week throughout his 50+ years as a baker. He was the head baker at Qualitie Made Bakery in the Dunbar area of Vancouver
for over 30 years before purchasing Oly's Bakeshop in 91原创 in 1993. He worked there as the sole baker until his retirement due to illness
in 2007. During his days off,
Josef was happiest outside working in his yard and spending time with his many animals, which over the years included many beloved dogs, llamas, horses, goats, and even a miniature donkey. He also enjoyed shopping for
bargains at local flea markets and garage sales, listening to traditional German music, and playing the accordion. Josef is survived by daughter Michelle, son Trevor (Leah) and granddaughters Madelyn and Charlotte. He is also survived by Maureen, the mother of his children, and his siblings Tina, Robert, Gunther, Hans, Dieter and their families.
