SCHNEIDER; Vern Theodore Samuel
October 17, 1927 - March 28, 2016
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Vern. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth, and 3 brothers Winton, Milton and Stuart. Survived by sons Bruce and Steve, daughters Kathy, Frances, Susan and Pam, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and their extended families, and his sister Dorothy and sister-in-law Arlene. He was well loved.
Vern was born in Medicine Hat, grew up in the Cypress Hills of Southern Alberta, and over a span of 80 years had many adventures with his best friend, Rod, revisiting "The Hills". He moved to BC as a young man, enlisted in the Navy, moved to Sidney, met and married Elizabeth and started his family. They lived in Richmond for many years, then resided in 91原创. Throughout his working career as a farm hand, trucker, his 27 years with Air Canada, and later, Island Designated Drivers, Vern developed many wonderful friendships and had lots of stories to tell. He had a keen interest in aircraft, locomotives and antique cars and trucks. Vern was known as a fine gentleman with a wit and a sense of humor and for his gift of the gab! He loved people and made friends everywhere. He loved to play crib, to travel, riding the ferries to Vancouver Island, taking the Amtrak to Portland to see Stuart and Arlene, and flying across Canada to be with his relatives and friends. Thank you to dear friends Wendy and Stephanie who went with him when he couldn't travel alone, and gave him comfort and lots of laughs. Many thanks to Rev. Karen Verveda, and Vern's United Church friends, his neighbors, Senior Centre pals, Care Workers, personal friends, and the staff at LMH and Fraser Health. A special thank you to Dr. Steven Hansen whose loving care and dedication sustained Vern and his family throughout the years. A Service for Vern will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 12:30 at the United Church Murrayville at 21562 Old Yale Road, 91原创, BC.
