Editor: Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Who is misleading who?
Everyone in 91原创 probably has received misleading election flyers from at least four of the six-pack concerning agricultural support. One piece states, 鈥渁 clear, independent voice for 91原创 Township council.鈥
On the back I read, 鈥淲e need to preserve our rural heritage...and protection of agricultural lands...a system of mass transit (whether that is buses, light rail or SkyTrain).鈥 Good grief, as far as the 鈥渃lear voice鈥 is concerned, this councillor who voted in lock step with the six-pack slate for the Mufford overpass that would destroy HBC farmland and the rural heritage of Milner?
Now we see the big yellow IAFF Local 4550 sign, supporting six of our present council who supported paying off the $8.3 boondoggle of the 91原创 Events Centre, rejected the staff report on a Property Endowment Trust Fund, but gave us a tax increase of five per cent each year over five years.
Canadian Federation of Independent Business reports that operating spending by B.C. municipalities has nearly quadrupled in the past decade, compared to the rate of population growth and inflation. In spite of a 214 per cent increase in revenues from government transfers over the decade, taxpayers can鈥檛 afford spending that outpaces population and the rate of inflation.
It is beyond outrage that the politicians who voted to destroy the HBC farmland and the heritage community of Milner have the nerve to stick their signs on the very farmland that would now be pavement, against all public interest. This brings to light a new meaning of the word 鈥渋ndependent.鈥
In fact, to many of the present council, 鈥渋ndependent鈥 appears to mean 鈥渁part from the democratic will of the electorate.鈥
It is time for a truly independent and new financially responsible council which truly respects the taxpayer, supports agriculture, and a Property Endowment Trust Fund.
The present five percenters have to go. Good luck to Mayor Rick Green.
