Letter: Assisted death is first-degree murder, and that makes it illegal

Editor: The Supreme Court鈥檚 demand that forces Canadian Parliament to endorse a law around assisted death is wrong at the core.

Premeditated first-degree murder is illegal in Canada and that is, in fact, what we are dealing with in assisted suicide/euthanasia.

It is premeditated, first-degree murder, no matter how you work on the wording. And Canada already has a law about that.

Assisting in any way to end the life of another person is to be culpable as an accessory. It is clear and basic. Assisted suicide will, in my opinion, create a legal chaos.

We appreciated an opportunity to hear a report on Bill C-14  at the public meeting Tuesday hosted by 91原创-Aldergrove MP Mark Warawa.

Despite the excellent presentation, followed by well-articulated comments from the public I am left with more questions:

Why are Physicians of all people assigned the task of 鈥渁ssisted death?鈥

Why would a law ask that sector of professionals (dedicated to curing our illnesses and to saving our lives) to willfully cause our death?

Why isn鈥檛 an independent party (executioner) assigned to end the life of someone asking for 鈥渁ssistance鈥 to die?

Why bother to find a cure for cancer, Alzheimer鈥檚 or any diseases for that matter, if the law deems that the most compassionate solution is to simply end life?

What happens to our premiums for life insurance?

Why pass Bill C-14 at all?

Whether our MPs vote for or against, the courts are going to be busy on this one.
