Dear Editor,

To the Township of 91原创 and the residents within it,

I am writing to express deep concern about the ongoing changes in Fort 91原创 that threaten the unique historical character and vibrant business community. Recent developments and closures have alarmed both residents and business owners, putting the town's charm and appeal at risk.

The closure of eight stores and houses in Fort 91原创 town centre since 2017 has significantly impacted Fort 91原创's atmosphere. These closures have not only affected the local economy but have also created a false impression that the town is "shutting down," causing unnecessary worry among visitors and residents alike.

The pressure for new development is creating ongoing tension with residents desire to preserve Fort 91原创's historic character. The approval of modern structures, such as the three-storey mixed-use buildings proposed for the Glover Mary Church project, threatens to alter the classic aesthetics that have defined Fort 91原创 for decades. This shift away from the traditional architectural style risks eroding the very essence of what makes Fort 91原创 special.

I urge the Township council and mayor to consider the following actions:

鈥 Implement policies to support existing businesses and encourage the reopening of closed storefronts.

鈥 Establish stricter guidelines for new developments to ensure they align with Fort 91原创's historical character.

鈥 Create a community-led committee to oversee and advise on future development projects.

鈥 Invest in marketing initiatives to promote Fort 91原创's businesses and historical significance.

鈥 Develop a long-term preservation plan that balances necessary modernization with the protection of our town's heritage.

Furthermore, I recommend the following additional measures:

Integrate community members from local organizations into the decision-making process for approving actions towards local businesses and new developments. This will ensure all voices are being heard and considered. Mandate that only locally owned businesses be allowed on Glover Road to preserve the town's unique character and support the local economy. Require all new developments to be aesthetically consistent with Fort 91原创's historical atmosphere, avoiding large, detached buildings that could 鈥渄estroy the nature of the community.鈥

Instead of closing under-performing businesses, implement initiatives to support and promote local enterprises. This could include marketing campaigns and community events to boost foot traffic and sales, similar to the recent Mastercard initiative that transformed Fort 91原创 into an immersive holiday shopping experience. Utilize Fort 91原创's historical significance as a key asset in development decisions. The village's heritage should be central to any plans for growth or change.

Fort 91原创's historical significance and charm are irreplaceable. Once lost, they cannot be recreated. I implore you to take immediate action to preserve Fort 91原创 unique character while supporting the local business community. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cara Vanessa, Coquitlam
