Dear Editor,
[Re: Heartfelt thanks to helpers, 91原创 Advance Times, June 6]
I read this thank you letter with such joyous emotions.
On that beautiful morning, which I remember well. It was a glorious sunny January day.
There are so many reasons why I should not have been at the place and time that Charlie Xue had his heart attack but I was.
Firstly I had a day off and was looking after my daughter鈥檚 dog. So I started off the walk with her and our dog. As we walked the trails in our neighbourhood, she refused to go the way I normally would go with our dog. That changed the trajectory of that day.
I normally would not walk around the Walnut Grove Park, but I was some how pulled in that direction. As we got close to the field track I noticed a group of students gathered around someone on the ground saying 鈥渏ust breath鈥
I knew that did not sound good and asked if they were okay? One young man yelled 鈥淣o, can you help鈥.
He was so kind to mind the dogs, and I went over to see if I could assist. It quickly became apparent that Charlie was having a heart attack, and we needed a defibrillator fast. One of the other students ran to get one, and 911 was called.
We started CPR, and thankfully emergency personnel arrived quickly to carry on further emergency care. I left thinking that poor man and how low his chances of survival are.
I think of that day often and always hoped things worked out well. As I read this letter, I have tears of joy that Charlie survived all odds against.
Thank you Charlie for reaching out and letting me know you are well, and I am very grateful I could be one of the many people who helped you that day.
