Editor: Why is it that developers are not mandated to provide green space when they build townhouses and condominiums in a newly developed area?
This should be paramount in their planning 鈥� we all know that trees provide necessary oxygen to combat climate change.
Trees absorb carbon dioxide removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. Trees also provide a canopy and habitat for wildlife, and can cool a city by up to 10 per cent.
I moved to the Willoughby area about a year and a half ago and have witnessed the destruction and desiccation of entire green areas 鈥� there鈥檚 nothing left.
Every time I go out for a walk, there is another development proposal sign in the neighbourhood. I鈥檝e seen deer 鈥� doe and fawn 鈥� on more than one occasion and am now concerned that these animals will be eradicated before building has stopped.
What is our 91原创 Township mayor and council doing to protect our treed areas? To reiterate what a previous writer had written (the Times, May 13), 鈥榳here are our large public parks in Willoughby?鈥� This is a sad state of affairs.
