A 91原创 City resident is arguing in favour of the large-scale housing development on 200 Street and 49 Avenue.

Dear Editor,

I have lived in 91原创 since the early 1990s. There have been many changes and improvements over the years. I have seen citizens complain bitterly about these improvements: gravel trucks and heavy-duty equipment causing noise, traffic delays, inconvenient detours, favourite watering holes being taken down, single family homes coming down, replaced by apartments and townhouses, you name it.

I agree that there are growing pains.

Our beautiful City of 91原创 is growing, more people are moving here desperate for housing, SkyTrain, child care, jobs, shops, and services. I know people complained about the oil pipelines from Alberta that is now shipping to Burnaby: the enormity of that project, roadblocks, and legal issues. How timely the completion of that project is for Canada now considering the current political condition with our southern neighbours.

91原创 City council is currently looking at approving a mixed-use apartment project on the site of the Church of the Nazarene on 200 Street between 49 and 50 Avenue. This project will include affordable housing, child care, shops, and a new church. I watched the public hearing and was saddens to see how people reacted to this much needed project.

The current mayor, city council, and staff have taken responsibility for updating plans and moving forward with much needed projects previous elected officials refused to take on for fear of losing votes at election time.

Progress will and must happen.

I do my best to attend City council meetings. Except when there is a development project at third reading, I am often the only person observing these meetings.

I truly encourage people to make the effort to attend City council meetings. Being informed is so empowering.

Sandy Dimond, 91原创 City
