Dear Editor,
I don’t know why I love Canada geese so much!
They stomped over my vegetable patch, pinched my peas, chomped on my carrots, loved my lettuce, and munched all my mahonia berries!
But when I think about it, I know why I love them: The spring squabbling as they protect their mate, the anticipation when they’re sitting on their nest, and the first delightful view of their babies as they take to the water for their first swim.
It’s such a pleasure to watch them forage and grow, to watch their first tentative and slightly ungainly flight is marvellous.
So I’ve forgiven them for eating my garden – I’ll just plant it somewhere else, and look forward to the pleasure of seeing them all again next year.
