Editor: It makes no economic sense for the Liberal government to B.C.鈥檚 liquor distribution system. Once it鈥檚 done, how long will it take for the government to sell off its warehouses and its public retail stores? Who stands to benefit? Who will be most adversely affected?
And don鈥檛 think for a moment that liquor prices will be lower because of this. The Craft Beer Association of B.C. is concerned that privatization could add a dollar to the cost of a six-pack of beer.
The public liquor distribution and retail system contributes billions of dollars to the government and helps pay for health care, education and highways. That ongoing revenue will be lost.
Why are the Liberals in such a hurry to give away a lucrative 10-year monopoly just months before the upcoming election? It just doesn鈥檛 make sense.
