Editor: I doubt whether anybody would dispute the fact that, as a means of controlling traffic movement, a set of traffic lights is far superior to a traffic circle (roundabout?).
Having said that, it would be interesting to know how much the traffic circle at the junction of 56 Avenue and 232 Street will finally cost, not forgetting the importing and later removal of all the stone and blocks of concrete, re-positioning the electricity pylons, expropriation of small areas of property at the four corners and replacing fencing at those points.
Then we come to the really expensive stuff 鈥� re-doing the whole area (which entailed using some pretty expensive equipment plus all the materials and labour involved.
Compared with this I must imagine that the cost of erecting a set of traffic lights must be absolutely minimal by comparison. I have heard talk that a traffic circle will add character to the area, which is all good and well, but does that warrant such enormous expense, to say nothing of the inconvenience that the construction of this traffic circle has caused? And, believe me, the inconvenience will not end once construction has been completed.
