When the time came to take a break from playing volleyball this past season, Morgan Buckner could not make a clean break and had to stay involved.

So she coached the Grade 8 team at 91原创 Fundamental Middle and Secondary School.

鈥淚 like spending time with kids and it gives me an opportunity to give back to the community too,鈥 she explained.

In her spare time, Buckner volunteers in the Gateway of Hope kitchen.

鈥淚t feels good just to give back, especially at the Gateway of Hope, knowing that you can help people,鈥 she explained, adding she was influenced to get involved through her parents鈥 example.

The Grade 12 student has played school and club volleyball since she was in the sixth grade, and soccer since she was 10 years old.

But sports are only part of the well-rounded student鈥檚 resume.

Buckner consistently makes the school鈥檚 honour roll and effort honour roll. She has a 99 per cent grade point average and last year won the school鈥檚 service, citizenship and outstanding leadership awards. She is also the four-time winner of the school鈥檚 Principal Award.

She also is on the school鈥檚 grad council and leadership classes and tutors students after school.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Buckner is involved with the Township of 91原创鈥檚 Youth Advisory Committee and Economic Development Committee.

Having been accepted to both the UBC and UVic business schools, Buckner will attend one of those and hopes to study corporate law.
