After being held to twelve goals in the first two games of the series, Six Nations showed they鈥檙e more than capable of finding the back of the net.
The Arrows scored a playoff-high 19 goals to take game three of the Minto Cup at the 91原创 Events Centre 19-5 against the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs.
鈥淥ur backs were against the wall and the boys responded,鈥� said Arrows head coach Marshall Abrams. "We鈥檙e very happy with our play and we just have to keep it going for Game four.鈥�
In a game that saw fifteen game misconducts and fifty-four penalties, the rough play seemed to favour Six Nations, who were using their aggressiveness to frustrate the Adanacs, forcing them to take some early penalties.
鈥淚n the first two games, we took too many penalties and were undisciplined,鈥� said Abrams. This time we were heavy on the cross-check and took it on the chin when we had to and answered on the scoreboard.鈥�
The Arrows scored two short-handed goals and another three times on the power play, as they outshot the Adanacs 48-42.
鈥淚 know we鈥檒l expect a better game from Coquitlam tomorrow night. They鈥檙e going to come out hungry and we have to match that intensity right off the bat," Abrams said.
Arrows captain Johnny Powless led the way with seven points, Joseph Maracle had six points and Josh Johnson delivered with a five goal performance.
鈥淲e needed that win,鈥� said Powless. 鈥�
The guys believed in each other and we came together tonight and played like a team.鈥�
鈥淭hat was a big game for me,鈥� said Arrows goaltender Doug Jamieson.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 play my best the first two games, so it was nice to make some big saves and see the guys step up and score some goals.鈥�
For the Adanacs, they still lead the series 2-1 and know the series is far from over.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just one game,鈥� said Coquitlam head coach Neil Doddridge.
鈥淭hey all can鈥檛 go the right way and this one obviously didn鈥檛.
鈥淲e鈥檙e not down 2-1, we鈥檙e up 2-1. As of right now, we鈥檙e closer to winning the series than they are.鈥�
Coquitlam leads the best-of-seven junior A championship series.
Game four is Aug. 20 and game five is Aug. 21 at the LEC. Both start at 8 p.m.
If necessary, games six and seven would be this weekend (Aug. 23 and 24).
