If last week is any indication, Lauren Barwick is right on track.
The Aldergrove woman captured a pair of medals for Canada at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France.
Barwick, who turns 37 next week, was competing in the para-dressage competition.
Barwick won silver on Friday riding Equine Canada鈥檚 13-year-old Oldenburg mare, Off to Paris, in the Grade II Freestyle Test.
The pair received a score of 76.250 per cent, just missing the gold medal.
鈥淭o be 0.1 per cent away from a gold medal makes me feel like, in my mind, my mare performed like a gold medal champion today,鈥� Barwick said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 very gratifying to be a double medallist here for Canada and it just feels like we are on track for Brazil (2016 Olympic Games),鈥� she added.
鈥淲e have two more years to prepare and I feel that my mare is really settling in to her job.鈥�
She also won the individual bronze the day before her individual championship test.
鈥�(Lauren) is an athlete, who is not only a stellar equestrian but also an accomplished horse woman and all that came through in a beautiful freestyle test today,鈥� said Amie O鈥橲haughnessy, the Canadian team鈥檚 director of para-equestrian.
, including winning both gold and silver at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. She also competed at the 2012 Games in London, placing sixth and seventh.
She was paralyzed from the waist down in 2000 when a bale of hay fell on top of her, breaking her back.
Another local rider, 91原创鈥檚 Hawley Bennett-Awad, was competing for the Canadian Eventing team in Normandy.
The 37-year-old 鈥� who has competed for Canada at both the 2004 and 2012 Olympics 鈥� placed 24th in the dressage and 61st in eventing. She was aboard Gin & Juice.
