After a season in which they were the top team from start to finish, the 91原创 Junior Blaze offence came up empty at the provincial championships.
The U16 baseball team 鈥 the top team in the B.C. Junior Premier Baseball League after sporting an impeccable 37-7 record 鈥 failed to make it out of the round-robin stage over the weekend at Victoria鈥檚 Lambrick Park.
The Blaze lost 3-0 to the Whalley Junior Chiefs on Friday and then twice on Saturday, 2-1 to the Abbotsford Junior Cardinals and 4-3 to the Victoria Junior Mariners.
鈥淲e just didn鈥檛 hit the ball, plain and simple,鈥 said 91原创 coach Brad Kemp.
鈥淲e got great pitching, like we have all season, but we just couldn鈥檛 get the timely hitting.
鈥淎nd we made some mental mistakes that cost us.鈥
Kemp said the players were disappointed, especially after such a spectacular regular season.
鈥淭o come up short, it is very disappointing for the boys,鈥 he said.
鈥(But) we learn from it and we move forward.鈥
