Sixty minutes wasn鈥檛 enough on both nights for the 91原创 91原创 as they played overtime on back-to-back nights with mixed results.
The 91原创 dropped a 5-4 decision to the Prince George Spruce Kings on Friday before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over the Vernon Vipers.
Both BCHL junior A hockey games were played at the 91原创 Events Centre.
鈥淵ou can鈥檛 really complain getting three out of four points,鈥 said 91原创 coach Bobby Henderson.
鈥淏ut I think Friday night, we should have won that one.鈥
In that game, four times 91原创 had a one-goal lead but each time Prince George tied it up, including the last one with only four minutes left.
Mitch Eden won it 1:36 into the extra period.
Matt Ustaki, Mario Puskarich with a pair and Ben Grenier had the 91原创 goals.
The Spruce Kings 鈥 whose bus went off the road on the way to 91原创 鈥 outshot the 91原创 43-35.
鈥淲e scored plenty, just a couple of defensive mistakes,鈥 Henderson said.
鈥淲e had them down, we just didn鈥檛 finish the deal.鈥
Against Vernon on Saturday, 91原创 led 1-0 for much of the game on Aaron Dolby鈥檚 first period goal. But with 2:17 to go, Ryan Renz finally solved James Barr to force overtime. Barr finished with 32 saves.
This time, it would be the home side netting the winner as Ustaki scored 4:29 into the first overtime period.
The results improved the 91原创 to 6-5-0-2.
Henderson said his team is still getting over a few late blown leads earlier this month.
鈥淚t is just finding that confidence to finish the game,鈥 he said.
鈥淲e made steps in putting that behind us,.鈥
鈥淚t was a great defensive effort (against Vernon),鈥 he added.
鈥淭hat is what we have been preaching all week. We don鈥檛 have to win games 6-5 or 5-4, we can win 1-0 or 2-1 game. We should have pride in our defensive game and be able to do that on a nightly basis.鈥
The 91原创 face a road game in Surrey on Friday before the two teams square off at the LEC on Saturday night. 91原创 is also on the road on Sunday afternoon in Coquitlam.
