When an event happens year after year, people begin to forget when it began. LobsterMania from the 91原创 Soroptimists is such an event, according to event chair Shirley Stewart.
芒鈧揑 can芒鈧劉t even guess [the number of years it has been held],芒鈧� she said. 芒鈧揑t芒鈧劉s just always happened.芒鈧�
It keeps happening, this year on May 24, because it芒鈧劉s a good time. Adults get together with music, fun and games, and try to dismantle a two pound lobster for dinner.
If two pounds of Nova Scotia lobster isn芒鈧劉t enough, not to worry, there are always salads, buns and all the fixings that go with such a feast.
芒鈧揥e fly them in,芒鈧� Stewart said of the arrival of the main course. 芒鈧揟hey come from the Lobster Man on Granville Island. He flies them in and cooks them and we pick them up.芒鈧�
The Soroptimists provide bibs and instructions to get at the chilled lobster meat. Guests are expected to dress down and bring whatever implements it takes to get at the insides of that protective shell.
芒鈧揈verybody should be dressed down because it芒鈧劉s really dirty, really messy with the lobster,芒鈧� Stewart noted. 芒鈧揥e芒鈧劉ve had people show up with small hammers, some bring picks to open their lobsters, we芒鈧劉ve even had buckets of rocks on the tables. It芒鈧劉s lots of fun.芒鈧�
Along with a DJ providing music, there will be a no-=host bar (no minors at the event), a silent auction, door prizes, dancing, and games.
芒鈧揥e芒鈧劉ve got all sorts of fun things planned for entertainment and to be honest I don芒鈧劉t know what they all are,芒鈧� Stewart said. 芒鈧揕ike games of chance and games to get people up and moving and we are going to do the kiss the cod, complete with screech.芒鈧�
Funds raised will go towards general programs for women and girls supported by the Soroptimists.
芒鈧揥e will probably share them [the funds raised] between a couple of projects,芒鈧� noted Stewart. 芒鈧揂ll our projects are for women and girls in the community.芒鈧�
Tickets for LobsterMania are $55 for the May 24 event held at the George Preston Recreation Centre at 20699 42 Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7:15 p.m.
