Lightning strikes gold

91原创 United U21 women's soccer team takes top spot at provincials

The 91原创 United Lightning raced out to a 3-0 half-time lead and then hung on for the 3-2 victory.

鈥淲e were up 3-0 at half-time, full control of the game,鈥 said 91原创 coach Tom Radomski.

鈥淎nd then we just hung on.鈥

His team was playing CCB (Central City Breakers) United in the women鈥檚 U21 B.C. Soccer Adult Provincial Cup finals over the weekend in Langford.

Isabella Lord opened the scoring for 91原创 on a penalty kick and Sydney Gobin and Sydney Raison gave them a three-goal advantage.

And just when it seemed 91原创 was going to cruise to victory, CCB battled back, scoring two unanswered goals.

Gobin earned the game鈥檚 most valuable player award.

The win caps off an extremely successful season for the squad, which was playing at the U21 level for the first time.

Back in March, the team won the Metro Women鈥檚 Soccer League U21 Gold Division title. They had finished second in the regular season with a record of 9-3-2, scoring 43 goals and surrendering just 10 in the 14 games.

Radomski has coached many of the players at one point or another since they were six years old as they progressed through the 91原创 FC ranks.

Last season, he was an assistant as the team played in the new High Performance League with the Magnusson Ford Mariners.

But the players decided to leave the HPL and joined the MWSL under the 91原创 United banner.
