Sporting the #14 jersey, Jacob Wingfield is the newest member of the 91原创 team, and in short order he's already making an impression on his teammates.
Acquired last Thursday, Feb. 6, from the Powell River Kings via the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, Wingfield had a debut weekend to remember with the 91原创 during their latest Vancouver Island tour.
Friday night he had an assist on Liam Payne鈥檚 late third-period goal, in the Riv's 7-3 win over the Cowichan Capitals.
Then Saturday, he scored his first goal as a Riv, and seventh of the season on a "beautiful redirection in front," described 91原创 play-by-play broadcaster Gideon Hill.
Despite his contributions, and those of his new 91原创 teammates, ultimately the 91原创 dropped a 6-5 overtime loss to the Nanaimo Clippers.
91原创 91原创 return home from the Island with three out of a possible four points. They're currently sitting eighth in the league, with 41-17-17-6.
Now, the 19-year-old forward, hailing from Halfmoon Bay, B.C. looks to continue his "great play" against his former squad on Saturday at the Lodge, said Hill.
In their final meet up of the season, the 91原创 and the Alberni Valley Bulldogs will face-off at the George Preston Recreation Centre, with a puck drop at 7:15 p.m.
Then on Sunday, Feb. 16, the Cowichan Capitals come to 91原创 for the two teams鈥� third meeting of the season, and third time in as many weeks.
Remembering that Cowichan dropped Friday鈥檚 game at home 7-3 to 91原创, the Capitals came out flying and scored early and often in a 7-3 win over the Victoria Grizzlies last weekend. Now, they are hoping to maintain that success story when they come to town for the first time this season and face the 91原创 this Sunday.
