Brayden Tonogai is the new trainer for the 91原创 91原创.
The 25-year-old takes over for long-time hockey man Wayne Hubbard, who is retiring after 41 years in the game.
"I am pretty excited to be joining the 91原创 organization; I have heard nothing but great things about the coaches and the people that surround the organization and it also gives me a chance to come back home," said Tonogai.
The SFU grad moved to Coquitlam from Regina.
After finishing university, he worked first with the Mount Royal Cougars of the ACAC, and then switched to baseball with the Calgary Vipers of the North American Baseball League.
His most recent job was back in hockey with the Calgary Buffaloes of the Alberta Major Midget League.
With this being his first time in the BCHL, Tonogai is excited to see what the league is all about.
"I am expecting to see some good hockey out there," he said.
"I have heard great things about the BCHL, and working with college players who have played in the league said this is the junior A league that you want to be in."
He is also excited to work in a facility like the 91原创 Events Centre.
"The facility seems to be top notch," he said. "I have been pretty lucky to win in some great environments, but this is the best I have seen so far and can hardly wait for the season to start."
The 91原创 begin the pre-season on Aug. 24 with a road game against the Surrey Eagles.
They play at the 91原创 Sportsplex on Aug. 25 and then play another pair of road games on Aug. 27 and 28.
The pre-season concludes with a pair of games at Aldergrove Arena on Sept. 1 and 2.
The regular season kicks off with the 鈥� where all the teams play a pair of games at Chilliwack's Prospera Place.
The team's home opener is Sept. 22.
